Summer School is an advanced course in the most up to date methods and theories
for the study of pottery from the Late Hellenistic and Roman imperial periods,
i.e. pottery manufactured and/or circulating in the Mediterranean countries from
the 2nd century BC to the 7th century AD. Participation is
open to students from Main
organizing institutions are the Istituto per i Beni Archeologici e
Monumentali of the Italian National Research Council, the Faculty of Classics of
the University of Catania, the Institute of Classical Archaeology of Tarragona
(Spain), the Schools of Advanced Study on Archaeology of the University of
Salento and Catania, the Assessorato dei Beni Culturali ed Ambientali della
Regione Sicilia, the Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali della Provincia
Regionale di Catania, the Icrates project of the Catholic University of Leuven
and the University of Cadiz (Spain). Those admitted to the Summer School will be given the
possibility of carrying out practical exercises on ceramic material from the
Late Hellenistic and Roman imperial periods. In this part of the course, the
students will interact directly with the teachers, which is probably the best
way of gaining an understanding of the problems associated with the various
classes of pottery from the different production centres of the The admission fee fro the Summer School is Euro 250,00 wich comprises participation in the lectures, exercises, two guided excursion at Syracuse and Piazza Armerina and a free-copy of the Proceeding of Old Pottery in a new Century.
