The Police Unit set up in order to protect archaeological sites in the country had received 516 complaints since its inception in 2008. They have been conducting looking into all these complaints and are mandated to take action against individuals who violate the Archaeological Ordinance. A senior official of the police unit said that they had completed inquiries into 181 of these complaints while 335 more were left to be investigated. He said the Department of Archaeology had implemented several programmes to prevent the destruction of the archaeological sites by unscrupulous individuals.
