University of Greenland seeks Candidates for two PhD Positions

The University of Greenland in association with the Greenland Climate
Research Centre at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, seeks
candidates for two PhD studentships in social sciences to work on topics
that advance understanding of climate change in Greenland. The
positions, which are available for three years, will begin September
2012, and are based in Nuuk, Greenland.
The studentships are part of a new five-year research program on Climate
and Society in Greenland. The program seeks applications for research
that will increase scholarly and policy-relevant knowledge on the
impacts of climate change in a Greenlandic context. Areas of study
include the impacts of climate change on resource development, the
military, and societal and personal security; local perceptions of
climate, weather, and environment; adaptation strategies in local
communities; conservation and management of living resources;
environmental health, well-being, and food security; public
understanding of climate change; and policy processes and dialogue. The
successful candidates will be expected to carry out original research.
Applicants should have a Master's degree in social/cultural
anthropology, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or a
closely related social science. Knowledge of Greenlandic, Danish, and
English will be an advantage.
