The Centre for the Study of Modern and Contemporary Archaeology (CEAM) and its partner institutions are pleased to announce the organization of the 1st International Conference on Sugar - Landscapes, Material Civilization and Economics (XV-XX Centuries).
Being aware of your previous research and interests, we would like to invite you to attend the Conference.
The application should contain: author’s name and address, title, summary and proposed type of the presentation.
Time and place: MACHICO - MADEIRA, PORTUGAL, on 6th – 7th June, 2013.
The main subject of the Colloquium:
Landscapes - Relationship between human and natural resources; Sugar cane fields and landscapes - change and permanence; Sugar cane agriculture; Urban and rural property; Relationship between sugarcane and other crops.
Material Civilization - Levels of wealth; Movable and immovable cultural heritage; Food and consumption; Ceramics; Artefacts and symbolic / religious utilitarian equipment; Transport and communications.
Economy - Production of sugarcane derivatives; Industry and manufacturing; Techniques and technology; Energy resources; Internal and external trade; Labor; Finances.
