Decorre este ano (Setembro) o Congresso da UISPP.

Ana Catarina Sousa (sousa@campus.ul.pt) e eu coordenamos uma sessão sobre o 3º milénio ane:  

WITHIN DITCHES AND WALLS. SETTLEMENTS, FORTIFICATIONS, ENCLOSURES, MONUMENTS, VILLAGES AND FARMS IN THE IBERIAN PENINSULA IN THE THIRD MILLENIUM BCE.   

Se participarem no Congresso, podem inscrever-se na Sessão e indicar já o vosso título, de forma a fazer-se uma antevisão do que se irá fazer. Contamos com textos em inglês, editáveis eventualmente nos BAR.

Muralhas e metalurgia constituem-se como evidências fundadoras do conceito de «Calcolítico» na Península Ibérica. Desde meados do século 20 que os sítios com muralhas têm assumido um lugar central nos modelos interpretativos do Calcolítico. Actualmente, os sítios com muralhas são interpretados de formas muito distintas, em termos de génese, funcionalidade e significados. Para além da perspectiva teórica, as recentes descobertas de inúmeros recintos de fossos de grandes dimensões, vieram alterar o quadro de referência em que os povoados fortificados se inserem.

A presente sessão pretende debater a questão das dinâmicas, significados e interpretações das primeiras muralhas de terra e pedra na Pré-história europeia face ao restante registo arqueológico, nomeadamente o dos povoados e sítios com fossos.

Serão incluídas diversas perspectivas sobre a temática de muralhas e fossos:

1.              Curtos estudos monográficos sobre monumentos e sítios;

2.              arquitecturas;

3.              os diferentes preenchimentos: as estruturas do quotidiano;

4.              as estruturas de excepção;

5.              cronologias relativas e absolutas;

6.              fossos e muralhas: redes de povoamento;

7.              modos de uso: modelos teóricos.

 

Nesta sessão, serão abordados estes conceitos de forma aberta, incluindo as diversas perspectivas interpretativas.

A presente sessão será fundamentalmente direccionada à escala da Península Ibérica, mas, se necessário, alargará as suas perspectivas geográficas.

 

ENGLISH VERSION

 

In this sense, walls and archaeometallurgy began as the founders evidences of the concept of 'Chalcolithic' in Iberia. Since the mid-20th century, habitats with walls have assumed a central place in the interpretive models for the Chalcolithic. Today, places with walls are interpreted in very different ways in terms of origins, functionality and meanings. Apart from the theoretical perspective, the recent discoveries of numerous large sites with ditches, changed the frame of reference in which the fortified settlements where located. The participants in this session will discuss the issue of dynamics, meanings and interpretations of the first earth and stone walls in the prehistory of Iberia over the remaining archaeological records, particularly in the villages and sites with ditches.

In this session will be included different perspectives on the theme of clay and walls:

1. short monographic studies on monuments and sites;

2. architectures;

3. different fillings: the structures of everyday life;

4. structures of exception;

5. relative and absolute chronologies;

6. ditches and fortifications: networks of settlement;

7. modes of use: theoretical models;

 

In this session, these concepts will be discussed openly, including the various interpretive perspectives.

This session will be primarily directed at the scale of the Iberian Peninsula with, if necessary, a broader scope.
