A new open access journal in archaeological and heritage science
Dear colleague,
I am excited to tell you about Science and Technology of Archaeological Research the first fully open access journal from Maney Publishing.
STAR is published in association with the Society for Archaeological Sciences (SAS).
Professor Robert H Tykot, President of the SAS and
co-editor of STAR, commented that "The Society for Archaeological Sciences is pleased to be affiliated with Maney Publishing through this new, open access journal, which aims for publications by a multi-disciplinary range of archaeologists, archaeometrists, and scientists, and at an even broader audience of both professionals and the wider public".STAR seeks to provide a dynamic, rigorously reviewed, international and high quality open access forum for rapid publication of archaeological research interpreted from, and informed by, scientific and technological data.
- Editors plan to highlight areas of archaeological debate
- Articles will provide interpretative context and suggest the relevance of scientific studies for the broader archaeological community
- BROAD SCOPE: The journal embraces the full breadth of archaeological enquiry; no periods, regions or site types are excluded
- SCIENTIFIC CONTENT: For publication in the core journal, STAR stipulates only that the article demonstrates the significance of the scientific or computational methods used to the archaeological knowledge base
- STAR aims to provide the first editorial decision within three weeks with rapid online publication
- The full potential of the online format will be used to showcase current imaging methods, data and analysis

The editors will be delighted to hear expressions of interest in submission. Please contact them on A.K.Outram@exeter.ac.uk and rtykot@usf.edu and visit the journal website as it moves towards accepting submissions in summer 2014.
