Historical Research in Museum Collections: Approaches, Opportunities and
Challenges

CALL FOR PAPERS

6th February 2009, University of Edinburgh and National Museum of Scotland,
Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh and the National Museum of Scotland invite
submissions for papers for a one day conference devoted to the challenges
and approaches facing doctoral students who use, or wish to use, museum
collections as a basis for historical research.  Topics of interest will
include (but are not restricted to):

-       Theoretical and historical approaches to the study of artifacts
-       The transition from academic research to museum display
-       Dress and textiles in museum collections
-       Conservation and object handling

Submissions outside these categories will also be considered.  Please send
proposals of no more than 200 words, or any questions, to the email address
below by November 24th 2008.  Please also include a short biography
including research to date and note of your doctoral study (no more than 50
words).  Papers should be no longer than 15 minutes and would preferably
include some form of illustration.
