Dear Colleagues,

The European Museum Forum (EMF) is inviting European museums to take part in the competition for the European Museum of the Year Award 2012 (EMYA 2012).

We are pleased to announce that the closing date for applications has now been extended to the 31 March 2011.

The Award was established in 1977 and is the most prestigious of its kind in Europe. It will be presented for the 35th time in 2012. Over the years, EMYA has been a dynamic tool recognising innovation, excellence and public quality in museums. It has helped to explore changes in the European museum field and is an instrument of international networking, bringing together the most advanced projects and people in the museum profession. Museums are changing and every year brings an array of new, unexpected ideas and new answers to the question “how a museum can best serve the community and society?”

The European Museum Forum ensures that EMYA reflects and keeps pace with these changes. New awards have been added to the scheme as part of EMYA to better reflect the trends and developments which are being pioneered by museums right across the 47 countries recognized by the Council of Europe.

Please find attached information about the awards, guidelines on how to apply and the application form for EMYA 2012.  We would be grateful if you could publish this information on your websites and spread word to colleagues who may be interested in EMYA.

You are also cordially invited to attend the EMF Annual Assembly and European Museum of the Year Award 2011 Ceremony, which is being held at the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven in Germany from 18–21 May 2011.  Please visit our website http://www.europeanmuseumforum.ru/ for further information about the Assembly and 2011 Award Ceremony.

We hope to see you there and we thank you for your interest and support in the work of the European Museum Forum.

If you have any queries or for more information about the European Museum Forum and the EMYA prize, please write to Doric McMillan, Administrator of the EMF Office at emf@liverpoolmuseums.org.uk.

With best regards,

Mikhail Gnedovsky
