To whom it may concern,

 

My name is Elliot, I am the education, community and outreach officer at Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves in Devon.

 

I’m currently working on a Heritage Lottery funded project to find out the location and condition of the Kents Cavern collection.

In excess of 80,000 artefacts, some of which were uncovered during the excavations of William Pengelly during 1865-1880, have been excavated from the cave.

 

After reading Pengelly’s excavation journal, records show that a number of items were sent to museums all over the world. The only problem for us is that we only have record of a small number of these museums and many of them no longer exist.

 

Over the last year, a number of museums have been in touch with me and so far we have been able to track down around 3,000 artefacts, located all over the UK and even as far away as New Zealand.

 

If you do have any Kents Cavern items in your collections please could you send us all of the information you have about them, including the condition they are in and with pictures if possible?
