Call for Applications for Scientific Research Grant

under the Project “PEERCHAIN”

It is now open a call for applications for a Scientific Research Grant for MsC’s under the Project PTDC/SEM-ENR/102869/2008, named PEERCHAIN and financially supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, under the following conditions:

1.       Duration and Type of Contract: 12 months of duration, starting on the 1st of November 2011, in an exclusivity regime, as indicated in the advanced studies for human resources regulation of FCT (http://www.fct.mctes.pt/pt/apoios/formacao/ambitoprojectos) and under the grant regulations of IST.

2.       Job Summary: The aim of this research is to address the design and planning of energy-efficient supply chain using meta-heuristic approaches. The development of the work will follow the subsequent stages:

1st Stage) The first step includes a literature review, where the candidate will deeply analyze the existent work in this area. The objective is to obtain different meta-heuristics suitable to represent and optimize the problems to be handled.

2nd Stage) The second step is to develop supply chain representations using these techniques. This may imply development of knowledge, practice and comparison of different methodologies to build up a consistent and representative approach for supply chains.

3rd Stage) The third stage is to address the proposed problem and solution approaches to account for multi-objective optimization solutions that can be used for the design and planning of such structures.

4th Stage) The final stage will involve the application of the solution developed to real-world case studies. Two to three industrial cases will be explored and the model applicability will be tested in detail.

3.       The four stages proposed are defined for a one year scholarship renewable.

4.       Scientific Supervisors: Prof. João Miguel Sousa and Prof. Ana Póvoa

5.       Required Education Level: The candidates’ evaluation will be done taking into account the following criteria, in this order of importance:

i)     MsC in Engineering and Industrial Management, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent;

ii)    Knowledge in Supply Chain Management;

iii)   Knowledge in optimization and modeling techniques;

iv) Knowledge in Programming Languages.

6.       Payment amount: Follows the Table of Amounts of Portuguese Research Grants funded by FCT.

7.       Required documentation for application: Applications are accepted in the specific form, and completed by the CV and proof of Education Level. All documents should be sent to cegist@ist.utl.pt.

Application Period: The call for applications is open from 28th of October 2011 until the 11th of November 2011.
