This special session on SimHeuristics focuses on the combination of Metaheuristics and Simulation methods to solve complex Stochastic Combinatorial Optimization problems (SCOPs). Real-life is plenty of uncertainty, which often makes deterministic models to be oversimplified versions of the real stochastic problems faced by decision makers.  Simulation (in all its variants) is one of the most flexible and powerful tools in modeling uncertainty, since it allows representing observed or expected randomness throughout best-fitted probability distributions –either theoretical or empirical– and then reproduce this random behavior using computers to fully explore its influence on the performance of the modeled system or process.  Accordingly, in this presentation we discuss how metaheuristics can be efficiently combined with simulation techniques to create SimHeuristics algorithms, which are able to efficiently solve complex SCOPs.

We look for high-quality research papers that represent novel contributions addressing both practical applications and theoretical issues, related with the combination of Metaheuristics and Simulation. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following ones:

·         Applications  of SimHeuristics to SCOPs

·         SimHeuristics applied to real problems

·         New development of algorithms that combine Simulation with Metaheuristics

·         Applications to multiobjective stochastic problems
