1st International Workshop on Bi-level Programming (IWOBIP’16)

The IWOBIP’16 will be held in Nuevo Leon, Mexico; from March 7^th to 11^th, 2016.

 

The main motivation for hosting the IWOBIP’16 is to bring together a group of academicians, practitioners and students working on this topic. Also, to attract young researchers and graduated students (master and PhD students) who are specializing in Bi-level Programming.

 

The workshop will take place at the main campus of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) located in the city of San Nicolas de los Garza in the state of Nuevo León, México from Monday 7^th to Friday 11^th, March 2016. The city of San Nicolas de los Garza is in the metropolitan area of Monterrey (state’s capital), making it easy and accessible for commuting within the area. The metropolitan area hosts more than four million people and offers a wide variety of tourist, recreational and cultural sites, which undoubtedly will make the stay more attractive during the workshop.

 

The IWOBIP’16 will consist of plenary lectures and mini-courses, both given by world-renowned researchers. Furthermore, research lectures presented by attendees of the event will be offered. There will also be a tour organized by the local committee for the integration and interaction of the participants to the event. It is important to mention that there will not be parallel sessions; only one daily main session will be scheduled because of the degree of specialization of the workshop. Among the topics of interest of the IWOBIP’16 are: theory, exact methods, heuristic algorithms and interesting applications modeled as bi-level programming problems.

The workshop official languages are English and Spanish. The plenary lectures and the mini-courses will be in English or Spanish. In the case they are in Spanish, the slides will be in English.

REGISTRATION AND SCHOLARSHIPS:

There are three types of registration: full scholarship, regular scholarship and regular application. Registers must select one of the three categories just mentioned. 

 

-       We will have around 35 full scholarships for the workshop participants (only students), the scholarship includes 6 nights in shared room during the event, meals during the day in the event and the registration fee. Transportation to the event is paid by the applicant.

-       The regular scholarship only covers the registration fee. It is basically for local students or foreign students who do not achieve the full scholarship. 

-       For the regular application, the submission will only consist on the abstract of the presentation (without recommendation letter and curriculum vitae). The applicant must cover his/her registration fee in the indicated dates to be included in the event.

Those interested in participating in the IWOBIP’16 must submit the following documents in PDF format to the following email address bi_level@fcfm.uanl.mx :

-       The submission form posted in the workshop’s webpage.

-       An abstract of the research work to expose (between 250 and 500 words) with three keywords in the appropriate format (available on the event’s webpage).

-       A recommendation letter (preferably from your advisor –in case of students-).

-       Short curriculum vitae.

The results of the Scientific Committee will be decisive and will be posted on the workshop’s webpage. Those who will participate in the workshop (regardless the registration type) must complete a form with personal information.

Special scholarships for members of SMIO

The Mexican Operations Research Society has decided to support IWOBIP’16 with a limited number of scholarships covering the registration fees for students and researchers. Also, a preferential quota will be handled for SMIO members. The only prerequisite is that the applicant must be an active member during 2016 (to see the manner you can become a member please consult http://smio.weebly.com/membresiacutea.html).

 

The procedure for requesting this special scholarship as a member of SMIO is the same as described above for full scholarships but in the email you should indicate that you had covered the membership quota of SMIO for 2016 (please, attach the proof). 1er Taller Internacional de Programación Binivel

El taller se llevará a cabo en Nuevo León, México del 7 al 11 de marzo de 2016.

 

Las principales motivaciones para realizar el 1er Taller Internacional de Programación Binivel son para reunir a un grupo de académicos, practicantes y estudiantes que trabajan en este tema y también para atraer a jóvenes investigadores y estudiantes de posgrado (maestría y doctorado) que se estén especializando en Programación Binivel.

El Taller se realizará en la Ciudad Universitaria de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) ubicada en la ciudad de San Nicolás de los Garza en el estado de Nuevo León, México del lunes 7 al viernes 11 de marzo de 2016. La ciudad de San Nicolás de los Garza se encuentra en la zona metropolitana de Monterrey (capital del estado), por lo que es fácil y accesible trasladarse dentro del área. La zona metropolitana alberga más de cuatro millones de habitantes y ofrece una amplia variedad de paradores turísticos, recreativos y culturales, lo cual seguramente hace más atractiva la estancia en el Taller. 

El 1er Taller Internacional de Programación Binivel estará conformado por conferencias plenarias y mini-cursos, ambos impartidos por investigadores reconocidos a nivel mundial. Así mismo, se ofrecerán conferencias de trabajos de investigación presentadas por asistentes del evento. Además, habrá un paseo organizado por el comité local para la integración e interacción de los participantes al evento. Es importante mencionar que no habrá sesiones paralelas, sino que solamente será una sesión principal diaria debido al grado de especialización del Taller. Dentro de los temas de interés del Taller se encuentran teoría, métodos exactos, algoritmos heurísticos y aplicaciones interesantes de problemas modelados con programación binivel.

Los idiomas oficiales del Taller son inglés y español. Las conferencias y mini-cursos serán en inglés o español. En dado caso de que sean en español, las diapositivas estarán en inglés.

REGISTRO Y BECAS:

Existen tres tipos de registro: beca completa, beca de inscripción y por solicitud. Los registrados deben seleccionar una de las tres categorías recién mencionadas.

-       Contaremos con alrededor de 35 becas completas para estudiantes asistentes al Taller, dicha beca incluyen 6 noches de hospedaje en habitación compartida durante el evento, comida durante el día en el evento y cuota de inscripción. La transportación al evento corre a cuenta del solicitante.

-    La beca de inscripción solamente cubre la cuota de inscripción. Básicamente es para estudiantes locales o bien, estudiantes extranjeros que no alcancen beca completa. 

-       Si alguien hace el registro por solicitud solamente deberá someter su charla con la siguiente información (sin carta de recomendación ni curriculum vitae), así mismo, deberá cubrir su cuota de inscripción en las fechas señaladas para ser incluido en el evento.

-    Resumen corto del trabajo de investigación a exponer (entre 250 y 500 palabras) con tres palabras clave en el formato adecuado (disponible en la página del evento).

-       Carta de recomendación (de preferencia de su asesor –en caso de estudiantes-).

-       Currículum vitae resumido.

Los resultados del Comité Científico serán decisivos y se publicarán en la página del evento. Las personas que van a participar en el Taller (sin importar el tipo de registro) deberán llenar una forma de registro para completar su información personal.

Becas especiales para miembros de SMIO

La Sociedad Mexicana de Investigación de Operaciones ha decidido apoyar el evento con un número limitado de becas para inscripción de estudiantes o investigadores, además de que para los miembros de SMIO se manejará una cuota preferencial. El único requisito indispensable es que sean miembros activos durante el 2016 (para ver la forma en que pueden hacerse miembros pueden consultar http://smio.weebly.com/membresiacutea.html) 

El procedimiento para solicitar la beca especial como miembro de SMIO es el mismo descrito anteriormente para becas completas pero en el correo deben indicar que han cubierto su cuota de 2016 para ser miembros de SMIO (anexar comprobante). La fecha límite es la misma que sigue a continuación.
