Abstract: Landscape evolution and environmental change has been addressed in Lisbon by using multiproxy analysis (palynology, sedimentology and organic geochemistry) on the sedimentary record of Ribeira das Naus. According to radiocarbon dates, the sediment covers from circa 50 to 600 cal AD. Multiple proxy data was crosschecked with archaeological data, enabling for the reconstruction of palaeoenvironmental change during 600 years at high resolution. Lisbon was a semi-open landscape area with permanent human impact since 50 cal AD. After 200 cal AD complex sedimentological changes occurred in this subtidal area of the Tagus margin, suggesting a shift on the sedimentation pattern reported until 350 cal AD. Diverse rhythms of environmental change have been identified in accordance with socioeconomical and political variability of the area, as evidence by higher human impact between 150 cal AD and 450 cal AD. This work underlines the usefulness of transdisciplinary approach when addressing palaeoenvironmental questions.
