Re: [Archport] Digest Archport, volume 56, assunto 48
Dear Archport,
As an American and an archaeologist, I want to bring some clarity to this subject of Harrison Ford being an archaeologist and the director of the AIA.
I will make this brief. Harrison Ford is an actor, not an archaeologist. All Americans know this. He is not qualified to excavate but is quite qualified to play an archaeologist on the big screen, in Hollywood. Because of his fame and gained wealth from playing this role, he, in turn, accepted this honorarium as a trustee of the AIA. He is not the director of the AIA as there is no director, only a President who is Brian Rose, the archaeologist responsible for the current excavations at Troy.
As a trustee, the AIA accepted Ford's patronage and support of the institution which concerns itself with the education, research, protection and conservation of archaeological sites as well as anti-looting campaigns and legislation. Such a globally well respected institution would never make a Hollywood actor its leader (although, certainly, it is a good qualification for being President of the USA.)
Best to you all
