Scientist search for sunken ship carrying Egyptian pharaoh's coffin
APA-Cairo (Egypt) Egyptian and Spanish scientists began studying a
research project on the ship 'Beatrice', which was carrying the coffin
of pharaoh Mankaora who built the third pyramid in Egypt, which sank
off the Spanish coast.
The research project includes use of a 'water robot' to search for the
ship in the deep sea off the Spanish coast.
Zahi Hawass, president of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt
told reporters Saturday that the robot was equipped with communication
devices, sensors and high-tech digital cameras.
The stricken 'Beatrice' was carrying the coffin of pharaoh Mankaora
which was being transferred from Egypt to England for the conduct of
some scientific research, but it was exposed to a mysterious incident
in front of the historic city Carthage early in the nineteenth
century.
Archaeologists are expecting to unveil secrets of the sinking of the
vessel and find pharaoh Mankaora's coffin, along with other treasures
that were on board.
