Draftsperson- Egyptian Art
General Description:
The draftsperson will be responsible for creating pencil drawings of
original Egyptian relief decoration and objects. Pencil drawings are
done both at the Museum's excavation at Dahshur, Egypt and in the
Museum. The drawings are subsequently corrected by a supervising
curator and then digitized for publication or use in gallery displays.
Additional work will involve creating computerized reconstructions
of artifacts that now exist only in a fragmentary state and digitizing
architectural drawings and reconstructions.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
· Creating pencil drawings of Egyptian relief decoration and other
objects in the Egyptian Department and at the Museum's excavation in
Dahshur, Egypt
· Digitizing the drawings for publication and use in gallery displays
· Creating computer reconstructions of fragmentary Egyptian artifacts
· Digitizing architectural drawings and creating architectural
reconstructions
· Creating illustrations for gallery installations, exhibitions, and
publications
· Assisting with the organization and storage of graphic material in
the Egyptian Department
· Other related duties
Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
· Experience as an illustrator of art objects, artifacts, or
archaeological objects or as a scientific illustrator
· The ability to precisely observe and draw objects
· The ability to spend approximately 10-12 weeks per year in Egypt
living and working closely with others in a semi-rural environment
· The candidate should provide copies of 6-8 samples of their work
with the application
Knowledge and Education:
· B.A. degree required
· Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
