[Museum] EXPOSIÇÃO "VIKINGS" - GUERREIROS DO MAR

No próximo dia 21 de junho, os principais especialistas em História Medieval de Portugal e da Dinamarca estarão presentes no Museu de Marinha para a conferência “Rainhas, Pescas e Cruzadas. Portugal e Dinamarca desde os Vikings até à Era dos Descobrimentos”, no contexto da exposição temporária alusiva ao período Viking, patente neste museu.

 

Portugal e Dinamarca encontram-se aparentemente distantes um do outro, mas estão unidos pelo mar desde o período Viking. O seu passado comum enquanto nações marítimas na periferia da Europa, assim como os seus fortes laços políticos, não têm merecido o devido estudo, devendo ser melhor conhecidos. Esta será a primeira conferência realizada sobre o tema das relações Luso-Dinamarquesas anteriores a 1500, versando igualmente sobre a possibilidade da existência de uma aliança, a qual poderá mesmo ser anterior à mais antiga que conhecemos.

 

Esta iniciativa enquadra-se no âmbito da nova exposição temporária do Museu de Marinha – “Vikings – Guerreiros do Mar”, inaugurada por Sua Excelência, o Presidente da República, Professor Doutor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Contando com mais de 600 peças originais provenientes do Museu Nacional da Dinamarca, esta exposição retrata a vida e quotidiano dos Vikings, os quais foram presença constante em saques e pilhagens no litoral da Península Ibérica a partir do século IX.

 

A conferência inicia-se às 10:00 horas, terminando pelas 18:00. Seguir-se-á uma visita guiada à exposição alusiva aos Vikings pelo Diretor do Museu de Marinha e pelos académicos portugueses e dinamarqueses presentes, finalizando-se com uma receção. A visita inclui a apresentação de um novo conteúdo expositivo, alusivo às relações Luso-Dinamarquesas entre 1214 e 1472.

 

 

 

On June 21, the leading medieval historians from Portugal and Denmark will be present, in the context of the Museu da Marinha’s current Viking exhibition, to speak at the conference: “Queens, Fishery and Crusades. Portugal and Denmark from the Vikings to the Age of Discoveries”.

 

Denmark and Portugal are seemingly distant from each other, but they were already from the Viking Age connected by the sea. Their common past as important maritime nations in Europe’s periphery, as well as their remarkably close political ties, has been poorly studied and deserves to be better known. The conference will be the first ever to focus upon the topic of Danish-Portuguese connections before 1500, including the possibility of the existence of an alliance, which might be older than the oldest so far known.

 

The background for this initiative is the Museu da Marinha’s new special exhibition “Vikings – Warriors from the Sea” which was inaugurated by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on April. With 600 artefacts on loan from the National Museum of Denmark, the exhibition is a very modern display of the life of the Vikings, including how they ravaged the coast of the Iberian Peninsula from the 9^th century onwards.

 

The conference begins at 10h00 and ends at 18h00. At 18h00 the conference will be followed by a guided tour to the Vikings exhibition by the the Director of the Museu de Marinha and the Portuguese and Danish Professors of History, concluding with a reception. The tour involves the unveiling of a new exhibition installation addressing the Danish-Portuguese relationship between 1214 and 1472.
