TÍTULO: Recent developments on bin-packing problems with conflicts

RESUMO:

The talk is about the two-dimensional bin-packing problem with conflicts. The bin packing problem with conflicts (BPC) consists of minimizing the number of bins used to pack a set of items, where some items cannot be packed together in the same bin due to compatibility restrictions.

 

In the first part of the talk, we describe a general framework for generalizing the concept of dual-feasible functions in order to obtain lower bounds for this problem, and we show how these techniques can be used in order to improve existing lower bounds.

 

In the second part, we describe new heuristics for this problem, based on the concept of tree decomposition. We explain how we can deal with some issues raised by our approach, and discuss our computational experiments.
