Dear All,

Professor Paul Harper, from the University of Cardiff, will be chairing a session on Operational Research Applied to Healthcare. The briefing for the session is:

To meet the increasing demand from changing demographics, address the growing burden of lifestyle related conditions, drive up quality and respond to rising patient expectations, healthcare systems globally are having to do more with the same amount of money.  Furthermore healthcare systems are increasingly characterised by complexity and interconnectedness, thus problems in healthcare need to be viewed holistically as an integrated system of multiple components (people, organizations, technology and resources) and perspectives.
This special session on healthcare modelling welcomes papers on the development and application of OR methods to health and social care. We are particularly interested in studies that developed and applied practical methods for assisting with real life problems faced by healthcare professionals and managers.   This covers a range of topics including healthcare delivery planning and scheduling, hospital logistics & supply chain management, health information analytics, disease modelling and prevention, clinical pathways and workflow modelling, and emergency response planning.

The event will be held in Salvador, Bahia, from the 16th to 19th September. It will be hosted at SENAI CIMATEC and you can find relevant information at www.sbpo2014.org.

We need papers for this special session to be submitted in the appropriate format (as described in the homepage) by the 14th May. They can be mailed to Prof. Paul Harper (harper@cardiff.ac.uk) or to Prof. Valter de Senna (valtersenna@gmail.com).

The author limit of 3 (three) full papers for oral presentation does not include papers submitted to the Special Sessions.

We hope to see you in Salvador for the XLVI SBPO.

With good wishes,

Valter de Senna
(XLVI SBPO Organizer)
