Faculty Position in Logistics and Supply Chain Management The School of Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the area of Logistics and Supply Chain Management jointly held at the Department of Transport Engineering and Logistics (DITL) and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (DIIS). Duties: The duties associated with the position will include creating a strong independent research program, teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels), outreach and carrying out administrative tasks. Requirements: Applicants should be starting their academic careers or have started them recently. However, senior candidates with an exceptional track record will also be considered. Candidates need not be fluent in Spanish at the moment of applying. They must exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, an aptitude for teamwork, and a scholarly interest in high quality engineering education. It is advantageous to have earned a Ph.D. in a field closely related to logistics with a demonstrated research potential. Individuals with research interests in supply chain management, network design, warehouse, management freight operations, urban logistics, inventory control, applied operations research and transportation engineering are especially encouraged to apply. Industrial experience is desirable; a strong commitment to rigorous and relevant research is essential. It is essential that applicants show that they will be able to publish regularly in the near future; a list of ISI publications would boost the application. Applicants must exhibit an appetite for excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of academic life: a motivation for continuously improving their teaching skills; an interest for becoming involved with our doctoral program; and abilities for developing and maintaining an active research life. It is desirable that the latter has the goal of strengthening our country’s competitiveness and efficiency. It is also expected that the successful candidate will create new undergraduate and graduate courses in the topics listed. Application instructions Candidates should submit the following documents to vacantes-academicas@ing.puc.cl (in the email subject line, please put Faculty Position in Logistics and Supply Chain Management; see note A) by December 30th, 2014 (late applications may be considered until the position is filled). 1. Research statement (in English) indicating immediate and long term goals for your research plan. Detailed potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries. 2. Teaching statement of purpose (in English) indicating why you should be considered for the vacancy and your plans for teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g. giving examples of how you aim to transfer your knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students. 3. Up-to-date curriculum vitae in Spanish or English – see note B. 4. Copies of your five most important ISI publications highlighting their contribution to science and engineering. Include a full list of articles you consider relevant in the context of your application. In addition, candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be emailed directly by the signatories to vacantes-academicas@ing.puc.cl.
Once the complete set of application materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed whether or not his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and attend interviews with faculty members of the Department of Transport Engineering and Logistics and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, the Dean of the School of Engineering and the Selection Committee. Further information Additional information may be obtained by emailing the Department Chairman, Dr. Juan Carlos Muñoz (jcm@ing.puc.cl, DITL), Dr. Jorge Vera (jvera@ing.puc.cl, DIIS) |
