The important dates for the Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal focusing on Health Care Systems Engineering have changed. Please note the new deadline after the extension in the important dates section of this email. Significant challenges are faced today by healthcare systems. An aging population, leading to increased demand for services, and a shortage of staff have been creating a growing need for innovative healthcare systems engineering solutions. To address these challenges, researchers are encouraged to develop new, practical models and methods to support decision-making, where collaboration with healthcare stakeholders is essential to ensure that these solutions are applicable and effective in real-world settings. The 5th International Conference on Health Care Systems Engineering (HCSE 2023) held in Lisbon originated enriching discussions between researchers and health practitioners, highlighting the importance of bridging the gap between theory and practice in this field.

 

This special issue is dedicated to showcasing recent advancements in health care systems engineering. An emphasis is placed on papers detailing new models and methods that have been validated through real-life cases and empirical data, underscoring their practical applicability. We invite submissions on a range of topics, including but not limited to:

 

• Decision Support Systems in Health Care
• Health Policy Formulation and Analysis
• Emergency Medical Services Planning
• Home Healthcare and Home Hospitalization
• Health Technology Assessment and Integration
• Health Systems Engineering
• Scheduling in Healthcare
• Operating Room Planning and Scheduling
• Hospital Network Planning

 

Important Dates

 

• Paper submission deadline: June 1, 2024 September 1, 2024
• Completion of first round of review: September 30, 2024 November 30, 2024
• Completion of second round of review: November 30, 2024 January 31, 2025
• Final submission due: December 31, 2024 February 28, 2025
• Tentative publication date: April 30, 2025 June 30, 2025

 

Submission Guidelines

 

Please submit your paper online via https://www.editorialmanager.com/flex/ and select the Special Issue "Health Care Systems Engineering". The target print publication date is late Spring/early Summer 2025. Note that the papers should be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
